Buddy Bench – So everyone has a friend.
Over the past five years, Mr. & Mrs. Hindman have actively participated on the Landrum Campus Improvement Committee as well as provided children’s clothing, school supplies and even some bicycles for some lucky children. Their donations to Landrum students are provided by the parishioners of the First Methodist Church of San Benito.
The “Buddy Bench” idea was presented to Landrum by Mrs. Virginia Hindman during a CIP meeting. She shared that all children should be included in play and friendships. Further, she added it is a movement across the country so that all children share in the fun and none are excluded. When the children have positive friendships they want to come to school and can do their best learning when feeling safe.
The Hindman’s enjoyed poems of friendship read by Mrs. Rosa Flores and Mrs. Elizabeth Trevino’s 3rd grade students. This was followed by “I Want to Hold Your Hand” written by the Beetles and performed by the Landrum 4th & 5th Gr Choir led by Fine Arts teacher, Mr. Alfonso Gonzalez.
“What Is the Buddy Bench? The buddy bench is a simple idea to eliminate loneliness and foster friendship on the playground. Let’s spread the message of inclusion and kindness!” according to “http://buddybench.org/ Read more at their website.
